“Hook Me Up” Band! – March 2 in Belfair

“Hook Me Up” Band! – March 2 in Belfair

Jazz Canvas is proud to feature the “Hook Me Up” Smooth Jazz Band from Tacoma, WA. Led, by Grammy Award-winning trumpeter, Tracey Hooker, this high voltage band is pro and will be playing March 2, 2013 for Belfair High School Auditorium fundraiser. Hook Me Up is comprised of 4 of the top contemporary musicians in Western Washington. The average experience level of the individual members is 25 years and that experience shines through when we take the stage. A couple hours with HMU will have you enjoying a few jazz standards, instrumental pop, a few latin tunes, vocal tunes, and some original music from our summer 2008 CD release to keep things fresh. Collectively HMU members have performed for hundreds of weddings, yacht/golf clubs, corporate functions, and nightclub/casinos. You can have us play quiet dinner music or put on a show, or both!

Some of our past performances include Multicare, H.G. Bistro, Muckleshoot Casino, Charles Wright Academy, Celebrate Shoreline Festival, Olympia Golf and Country Club, Tacoma Jazz Festival, Mt. Rainier Wine Festival, Sullivan’s Steakhouse, Capital Lakefair Olympia, Jazz in the Valley. Lacey Music in the Parks, Auburn Avenue Theatre, Bremerton Blackberry Festival, Burien Strawberry Festival, Tunes for Tapps, Crossroads Mall, Proctor Arts Festival, Emerald Downs Racetrack, Obelisco Estate Winery, Franke Tobey Jones Concerts on the Lawn, Jazzbones, and more! Read what a few have said about Hook Me Up;

“Hook Me Up presents a very tight, broad-spectrum, and fast-paced program with energy and top-notch professionalism virtually no other quartets can match. Their performance at Jazz in the Valley 2011 in Ellensburg, WA was so successful and popular, in an unprecedented move we brought them back in 2012 for an afternoon main stage AND evening 3-hour club set. The Hook Me Up mix of instrumentals, vocals, audience interplay, and music in nearly any style imaginable, leaves this band completely exhausted by the end of every night, and audiences delighted.”

Norm Wallen
Central Washington University Department of Music
Jazz in the Valley Board of Directors, Ellensburg, WA

“I’m hooked! Hook Me Up quartet played Olympia’s Music in the Park last week to a crowd of 1,000 in Sylvester Park. The performance was upbeat and professional–with artist flair. Led by Tracey Hooker, the band really got the audience involved as Tracey stepped down from the gazebo and let his trumpet do the talking. Hook Me Up is very entertaining with great song selections and awesome sounds. They are definitely a sure thing and we’ll be inviting Hook Me Up to play future dates in Olympia.”

Donelle DeuelMusic in the Park
Producer Olympia Downtown Association

“I enjoyed the group for several reasons; good musicianship, a great mix of classic pop/fusion/jazz material, tight sound, short tunes, trumpet/flugel oriented ensemble, and a fun feel coming off the stage.”

Sat. DEC. 8 on Bainbridge Island 7pm

Sat. DEC. 8 on Bainbridge Island 7pm

It’s a SPECIAL Christmas Canvas! We’re planning something very unique to the season for this one. We will be exploring different emotional aspects of the traditional Christmas colors, RED and GREEN. Expressed through music and art of course. We will be featuring one of Seattle’s top-call guitarists, Mark Wilson. A little about Mark:

Before the age of 24, Mark Wilson has toured over 30 countries playing in a 16 piece band. He has spent well over 10 years producing records for regional artists and 20+ years touring and recording on nationals records. He recently recorded “The Fireplace” CD in 3 days beginning with little more than 3 or 4 simple 8-bar notions —a realtime evolution of spiritually influenced sounds. More

Our evening will include incredible live music and live painting by Kitsap-based artist, Leigh Metteer, lighting effects, and collaboration with the Island Music Center team as we begin celebrating the holidays together.  We are excited to share this inspiring synthesis of art and music.

Hope you can make it! – Terry and Tracie

This is a fundraising event.  All income from ticket sales along with the proceeds from the painting raffle will go to benefit Santa’s Cause and  ALFC’s benevolence fund to help families who are facing significant life issues.  Please join us and invite your friends; it will be a night to remember supporting an awesome cause!

So What’s the Cause

The holidays, a season traditionally leading up to Christmas, is a time of celebration, of sharing good food and gifts with loved ones.  Many families in our community have barely enough to buy everyday necessities, sometimes choosing between their next meal or receiving medical attention, and very little left over for gifts or a special meal.  For some in our local Kitsap region, life presents just such difficult choices.  Santa’s Cause, a ministry of ALFC, is hoping to help 150 or more families this year.  We strive to provide each child a least one or more age-appropriate gifts, and each adult who is part of the immediate family, also receives a gift.  To the best of our ability, we also provide a $50 food card to help purchase items needed for a holiday/Christmas dinner.  Loss of reliable meals and shelter is a genuine concern with our neighbors. Please join us as we come together to help struggling families in need.

Sat. OCT. 20 – in Kingston 7pm

Featured Artist: Jackson Rice
Location: Bayside Community Church
Time: 7pm-9pm
Tickets. $20.

We are so excited to bring amazing musician/composer Jackson Rice (and friends) to Jazz Canvas! Working for nearly 20 years behind the scenes he has recorded, mastered, produced or performed on over 2000 recordings. Now a major artist in his own right, performing worldwide, selling his first solo CD release “The Firefly”, he has found a form of creative expression that begins in contemporary jazz and expands beyond the limits of any single genre. With “The Firefly” he has thoroughly established himself as one of the important, innovative trumpet players of the contemporary music world.

Smoothjazz.com says this:

This is an outstanding album of trumpet-driven Smooth Jazz from an amazingly talented and creative composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer from the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Jackson Rice. The best way to describe Jackson Rice’s music is, “Fourplay meets Chris Botti,” - Scott O’Brien

The Smooth Jazz Ride 2012 says this:

It has a sweet, refined feel to it combined with just enough thump and bump for the moderate funk rhythms we jazzers so love in our music. This album has balance and integrity as a contemporary jazz undertaking. Rice is clear on where he wanted to take this work, and the journey is truly a very pleasant one. – Ronald Jackson

Jackson also brings some heavyweights in from the jazz/contemporary music world. On keyboards, Mr. Kelly Carpenter, an amazing solo jazz/contemporary artist in his own right (he has also been known for his original song, “Draw Me Close”). On Guitar, Mark Wilson, first call Seattle musician well-versed in jazz, smooth jazz and contemporary music.
